Wilkswood Reggae 2022 Line-up
The Wilkswood Reggae 2022 lineup is now confirmed and we are pleased to say that this year is one of our strongest yet. We’ve managed to retain pretty much all of the artists announced previously including Twinkle Brothers, Mad Professor, Vivian Jones, Sandra Cross and the Queens of Lovers Rock, Janet Kay and Carroll Thompson.
Sadly Linton Kwesi Johnson has taken the decision to retire from live musical performance and will not be appearing this year but in his place we will have instead his longtime musical collaborator Dennis Bovell performing live on the main stage. Dennis performed and produced the LKJ albums Dread Beat an’ Blood, Bass Culture and Forces of Victory (as well as writing and performing Janet Kay’s huge lover’s anthem Silly Games) so his appearance is a bit of a coup.
Equally outstanding will be the appearance of both Mungo’s HiFi and Channel One Soundsystem performing all day with their own custom-built rigs in the Jah Spirit Soundsystem arena; anyone that caught Channel One at last year’s Carnival in the Barn will testify to a ground shaking experience usually reserved for Notting Hill Carnival.
Other exciting additions include Prince Fatty performing his own brand of dub wizardry with Shniece and Horseman, Joe Ariwa joined by stablemates I Jah and Abel Miller, the powerful soulful vocals of Aleighcia Scott and, on the Family Fringe stage, Khadijah Ibrahiim, hailed as “one of Yorkshire’s most prolific poets” by the BBC.
Elsewhere the Jah Spirit Sound System Arena will feature different systems ’stringing up’ each day plus a wide range of acoustic, percussive and spoken word acts on the Family Fringe stage.
