Carnival in the Barn – All You Need To Know

Carnival in the Barn
All You Need to Know

Make it a Skank Holiday Weekend!

The Carnival in the Barn is a series of three separate reggae soundsystem events taking place at Wilkswood Farm in Swanage, Dorset, over the Bank Holiday Saturday 28th to Monday 30th August 2021. Channel One Sound, Prince Fatty, Birmingham’s One Nation, Unique Star, Ras Diplo, Brother Culture and many more established and emerging reggae soundsystems are are all confirmed to play over the weekend.

Organised by the Wilkswood Reggae team, the events will bring some much-needed live outdoor entertainment to a limited number of festival-starved reggae lovers. Taking place over the same weekend as the also-postponed Notting Hill Carnival, the Carnival in the Barn will relocate the sights, sounds and atmosphere of Ladbroke Grove’s finest soundsystems into the woods by the sea. Each event will be limited to a manageable and relaxed 500 capacity each day and will feature a separate line-up of sound systems, MCs, deejays and selectors throughout the day.

Car parking, Camping & Campervans

There is no charge for car parking and all vehicles should be parked in the allocated field. There are strictly no vehicles allowed in the tent camping area. The site has an extensive camping area and pitches are very well spaced with ample space for safe distancing (should you still need it). Tents are restricted to the designated camping areas only and there is no sleeping permitted in cars in the car park.

Campervans are allowed in the designated Camper Field for an additional £5 per vehicle; this is a single payment for the whole weekend and permits the holder to stay as many nights as they have day tickets for.

On arrival, coloured wristbands will be allocated to each person for each day they have tickets (either complimentary or purchased). If you have weekend tickets you will be allocated three wristbands, one for each of the days. Please make sure you have evidence of your tickets on arrival, either as a printed copy or on your mobile, as these will be scanned by our door staff. No entrance to the main arena will be permitted without an untampered wristband. If you leave the site during the day, no admittance to the site will be permitted without displaying a wristband. Security staff will be visiting the campsite throughout the weekend to ensure that all campers have the relevant wristbands for that day’s camping.

There are no youth ticket concessions and it should be noted that, whilst kids are welcome, these downscaled events do not have any specific entertainment or provision for children (as we normally have at the main Wilkswood Reggae Festival).

There are portaloos in the camping areas and in the main arena but there are no showers. There is water supply at various points on site as well as washing up sinks but there are no electric hook-ups. We have been unable to secure any disabled facilities for these events so any attendees with any special requirements should bear this in mind.

The live acts will perform undercover in the main barn so not even the rain will stop play. The arena will feature a large main bar with draught ales, lager, cider, spirits, wine and soft drinks. A Jamaican food stall offering Caribbean street food and jerk barbecue fare will be the only food outlet on site. There will also be breakfast, tea and coffee available from the main food outlet each morning.

Because this is a much-downsized event from the annual reggae festival, there will be no other food or drink outlets, craft/merchandise stalls or designated children’s zone.

The Carnival in the Barn will be operating within current COVID restrictions and guidance and we ask all our attendees to remain thoughtful and considerate for the safety of themselves and others.

Do not attend if you are displaying any COVID symptoms, have tested for COVID or believe you have been exposed to infection. If you are suffering from any COVOD symptoms or fear you have any infection risk, we will offer you a refund on your ticket if you contact us prior to the event (

Before coming to the event we insist that you do everything you can to make sure that you are personally not a risk to other attendees. You can do this in any of the following ways:

  • By being full vaccinated for over two weeks.
  • By having had a negative lateral flow test at least 48 hours before the event.
  • By registering immunity from a positive PCR test from the last six months.

As an event venue we will be continuing to provide many measures to protect our customers and staff:

  • Provide hand sanitiser stations through the arena.
  • Increased cleaning and sanitation.
  • Enable customers to check in with the Test & Trace app.
  • Safely distanced camping.

Face coverings are optional but please be respectful of anyone’s decision to continue to wear a face covering or remained distanced from you. Be kind. Respect yourself and other people. Use common sense to stay safe.
