Ted Lavender – aka Ted at the Controls – first started on the decks in 2010 when he played the Endorse-It Festival in Dorset, quickly following that up with slots at Strummerville and the Hipshaker tent at the Isle of Wight Festival later that year. In 2011 he was booked by pop songstress Lily Allen to play at her wedding. Quite an achievement in itself made all the more astounding since Ted was the ripe old age of twelve at the time!
Since then, the 18 year-old from Waterlooville in Hampshire has developed a growing fanbase amongst reggae heads young and old with his varied mix of reggae, ska and dub. His love of reggae stems from his father Andy’s huge vinyl collection and he initially began spinning the decks in his bedroom. His own collection has grown over the years so expect so old favourites (Junior Murvin’s Police and Thieves is a staple of Ted’s set) as well as some rare and modern cuts.
